St George's School

It's our business to help you learn

 DRAGON Zones

There are currently four zones you can use, they are.......

  • The Outdoor Classroom.

This large dome shaped structure is handmade from local hazel sticks. The Hazel dome was then planted with living Willow saplings which have now covered the Hazel structure, the living Willow is continually woven into the Hazel to create a living Willow dome. Eventually the original Hazel dome will rot away leaving the living Willow in its place. The floor of the dome is hand sculpted from a special cement mix in the style of a giant jigsaw puzzle. The Outdoor Classroom will easily seat thirty students and can be used for a variety of workshop or lesson activities. The dome itself is now a haven for wildlife and from either inside or out many insect and other invertibrate species can be seen going about their daily lives.

  • The Dinosaur Dig.

With this zone you have the chance to dig up a full size dinosaur! 120 million years ago a huge  seven metre long dinosaur prowled the land. The bones of Neovenator have only ever been found here on the Isle of Wight and now you can find out for yourseves what it's like to be the one to find them. The hand sculpted replica fossil features one complete side of the dino skeleton. If you are clever you might even be able to work out how our dinosaur died but you will have to look very carefully at it's fossilised bones to find the evidence you need to work it out!

  • Imagination Zone.

Use your imagination and sail away to distant lands in our fully rigged yacht 'Sweet 1036'. The yacht floats in a sculpted sea overlooked by George the fisherman who owns it,......but beware because something strange is lurking in the murky depths so be sure to keep an eye out!

  • The Sensory Dome.

The Sensory Dome is a work in progress and you can help to come up with ideas and perhaps even help to make those ideas a reality. Like the Outdoor Classroom the Sensory Dome is made from Hazel sticks but this time is partially covered with a special cement mix. Unusual mosaics are being made on the inside with recyled and found materials and the outside has a strange organic sculptural quality. As time goes by the Sensory Dome will continue to be developed with your ideas so that it become an amazing sensory thing of some sort or other.......it's up to you to decide!

As well is these four main zones we are developing a woodland/nature walk for this year too.
